I was sitting at Starbucks a few months ago. I don’t know what it is about Starbucks’ environment, but it allows me to be a little more creative than I would be if I was at home or the office. Maybe it’s the continuous stream of people and conversations that flow or the lack of kids or co-workers tapping me on my shoulder.
As I’m sitting and observing those around me, I noticed a gentleman who came in and sat at a corner table. He took his laptop out of his bag, opened it and started working. My first thought, he was just at the Starbucks to use the free wi-fi. Not much later, he walked up to the counter and pick up a drink and sat back down.
In the meantime, there was a long line of people waiting to order their drinks.

I don’t get to spend as much time with my Mom as we’d both like. We both work and I have my own family that I tend to, with sports & after school activities, etc. Some days, I’m so exhausted from a thought-provoking workweek, all I want to do is relax and do nothing at all.
This past Saturday, I had a few hours to spend with my Mom. I called her the morning of and asked her if she was doing anything. She had plans, but was willing to push her plans out to spend time with me. So, I picked her up and brought her to the Columbus Food Truck Festival.
I told her to wear something comfortable because we were going to be doing a lot of walking. Continue reading Spending Time with Mom
First Trail Run Race and Most Likely my Last…that I pay for.
Even though I’ve broken up with Running, I had signed up for a trail run prior to the break up. Some running friends swear up and down that trail running is the way to go if street running ever became boring.
It was worth a shot.
I didn’t have trail running shoes, so I just wore my usual Brooks GTS shoe. It worked out great for me.
Since trail running was new to me, I didn’t know what to expect. Would we have to jump over fallen tree stumps or creeks? Avoid wild critters? Continue reading Alone, Lost in the Woods
It’s been almost 4 years since I started my relationship with you. I didn’t want to meet you, but someone recommended that we hook up. I still remember that mid-July day in 2014 when I stepped foot out on the street to meet you for the first time. I didn’t like you. You seemed to pay more attention to the more athletic types; I could tell from all of your Facebook posts with “other” people. But, I thought I’d give you a try anyways.
We would meet up every morning before the family awoke. I didn’t want anyone to know. I’ll be honest, I was embarrassed. I even took a social media sabbatical to hide my feelings about you. I was off the grid for a solid 3 months. It wasn’t until then that you started to grow on me.
It felt like I didn’t have any friends or family during this time, Continue reading Dear Running, it’s not me, it’s you.
When it comes to social media, it’s a great way to build your brand. One of the goals for most internet marketers is to get as many followers as quick as you can.
The strategy is to follow someone in your demographic and hope they follow you back. When they do follow you back, you send them a nice note (DM) to say “thank you” along with a link to purchase whatever it is you’re selling and then you unfollow them. That’s the end of that relationship.
For those not familiar with your brand, Continue reading The Social Media Strategy that Irritates the Hell out of Me on Twitter and Instagram #FollowUnfollow
For the first time, we were able to sit at a comfortable spot to watch the fireworks in its entirety. We laid down on slightly graded landscape that seemed to be made just for laying down to watch fireworks launched from the river behind COSI.
It was very crowded where we were. We marked our spot 4 hours before scheduled launch time. At the end of the day, it was worth it.
During the fireworks display, I started to think. Who invented fireworks? What was it’s initial purpose?
We don’t know for sure, but Continue reading Happy Independence Day! But, why all the fireworks? And who invented the firework?
This is pretty cool. However, this assumes everyone wants to wear a ring. I can see sizing being an issue. Also, I already am able to unlock my Mac with my Apple Watch. I can see Apple enhancing the watch to do what this company is offering by unlocking doors, access to offices, etc. in the future.
